Our young folks
Boys will be boys. This we can not deny
And boys will have the fun even as you and I
But men too; their pleasures do enjoy
But heck; What's a man?
Nothing but a grown up boy.
We criticise our young folks. Because of the way they live.
We warn them not to always think of getting.
But to think sometimes to give.
It's too bad about our young folks. The way they tear around.
Now of course when we were kids
We were quiet never made a sound.
Oh yes we were angles [angels: sic] All we lacked was the wings.
And we were always busy; always doing things.
Yes it's too bad about our young folks
The way they are going to the bad.
They way they carry on is enough to drive one mad.
It's too bad about our young folks.
Thinking always of having a good time.
Now, wait just a minute. How the heck am I going to make this ryme? [sic]
Oh yes. All they think about is having a lot of fun.
When they work they never hurry
When they play, they always run.
Now wait just a minute brother,
I wonder just who's to blame.
For the way our kids conduct themselves. It realy [sic] is a shame.
Have we set them a good example
Have we always done just what we should?
Have we always been so perfect?
Have we always been so good?
Of course we never commited murder
Or any other crime.
But have we trod the strait and narrow.
All of the time?
Perhaps we never gamble,
Tell a lie or take a drink.
But I'll bet we are far from perfect.
Now neighbor, just what do you think?
Our Master said, "Let him who is without sin first cast a stone." (John. 8-7)
But of course I never sin. Except when with some one, or when I'm alone.
The note in the other fellow's eye
Is very plain to see. (Mat. 7-3)
But the beam in my own.
Is what should be worrying me.
Now folks Before we get too rough on our young folks.
Before we ride them too hard.
What do say we get out and
Clean up our own back yard.
Jim Walker. (Hillbillie poet?)
The reason a dog has friends
Both old and young
Is because he wags his tail
Instead of his tounge [sic]. |
