In The Walkers - Pictures of the Unknown, there are several other photographs of unnamed Civil War soldier friends of Charles Pearsey Walker.

Although the writing is very difficult to decipher on this photograph, it says George H. Stults for the name of the man in the picture. George was in Company "A" of the Iowa 34th Regiment, which consisted mostly of recruits from Decatur County, Iowa. A listing of all the members of that Infantry Regiment is available in the Paperwork section. An online site that sells photographs of soldiers from the Civil War (this web page), lists a photograph (not shown) as for sale of George Stultz; perhaps it is this same photograph: "RG98S-CWP2.17 A bust view of Pvt. George H. Stults, Co. A, 34th Regt., Iowa Vol. Inf. He is pictured in uniform." The 34th Iowa was Charles Pearsey Walker's Regiment; George was apparently a good friend. According to some of the letters, also in the Paperwork section of this Walker family web site, Charles occasionally sent home photos of his friends with instructions for his family to keep them until the war's end. |
