Reil Walker was Shirley Broeker's "step-grandmother." This photograph was taken in what seems to be the summer of 1939. There are a series of photographs that apparently were taken at the same time, and it seems to be a large family reunion. July 24, 1939 was Samuel Nathaniel Walker's 70th birthday, and I would theorize these photographs were from a reunion celebration of that event (someone might be able to remember and correct me or confirm this). If this was taken in 1939, Shirley's mom, Ruth, had died several months before this picture was taken. |
