![]() Gilbert Johnson was the son of Swedish immigrant, Andrew Johnson (1850-1937) who camed to America in January 1870, and Johanna Anderson, whom he married in the fall of 1870. They were for a time farmers in Pleasant Grove Township east of New London; later Andrew ran a business working as a mason contractor. He laid the foundations of many buildings in New London, built most of the early brick buildings there, and built many of its early sidewalks.
