Samuel Nelson and Lucinda Hopkins [Deen] Moyers

This photograph was published in a series of Louisa County (Iowa) biographies of longtime residents during the end of the nineteenth century. This couple were the parents of George W. E. Moyers who married Rebecca Pence. Samuel Nelson Moyers was born January 31, 1827 five miles north of Carrollton, Illinois and died January 13, 1920 in Burlington, Iowa. His wife, Lucinda Hopkins Deen, was born June 15, 1824 in Lewis County (West) Virginia. She died November 9, 1909. They were married August 6, 1846 and had a total of four children. Besides George they had a son Jacob, daughter Sarah, and a daughter, Marietta, who died at age fourteen.

Samuel and Lucinda retired from farming in 1884 and moved into Mediapolis, Iowa. Lucinda died in Mediapolis.
