More info: Rebecca [Pence] Moyers |
Rebecca E. (Pence) Moyers was Hattie Mae Moyers' mother. The back of this photograph has the words "Great Grandma Dotson" written on it, but it is mislabelled. A scanned photograph of a page from a 19th century Louisa County, Iowa, book of biographies shows this photograph and the next photograph to be those of Rebecca [Pence] Moyers and George W. Moyers. Rebecca E. Pence was born April 10, 1847 in Virginia (probably Rockingham County), the third daughter of Jonathan S. Pence and Mary (Polly) Tutwiler. Her mother died in 1848 and her father, a union soldier, was killed in Alexandria, Virginia, on June 2, 1865 during the course of the Civil War. Rebecca moved to Iowa with her sister and brother-in-law, Mary [Pence] and Martin Dean, in 1866. The Deans eventually settled in Cass County, Iowa. Rebecca remained in Des Moines County, Iowa, where she married George Moyers on November 11, 1869. Rebecca and George had ten children. |
