John Edgar |
Marjorie Kimble has kindly provided this photograph. The text on this photo says, "This is for Uncle Charley and Aunt Elly, March 20, 1872" which were Charles Pearsey Walker and Ruth Ellen Fox. In letters written by Ruth Ellen's mother, Kitturah, to her daughter, Elizabeth, Charles is called Charley. The child appears to be about 2 years old, which would lead me to believe he was born between 1869-1870. I don't have names or information of many of the grandchildren of Kitturah and Nathaniel Fox, but one of their sons, Thomas Fox, did live in Mt. Pleasant around this time, working as a "peddler." The list of his children who are presently known includes five children born between 1871-1879, but no (known) boys were born until 1879. There could, perhaps, be other children. Elizabeth M. Fox, another sister of Ruth Ellen's, had sons born in 1867 and 1872, seemingly too old or young to be the child in this photo and by 1872 she was living in Nebraska. John Edgar, born December 16, 1870, the son of Ann Clarinda [Walker] and William Edgar, is very likely the child in this photograph. The photo of John's sister, Cress, was also taken in Mt. Pleasant; the two children bear a resemblance, although at times all baby pictures seem to look a lot alike. John Edgar died young, October 11, 1891. |
