In the final days of the depression, the war that loomed over the lives of the people who were this age probably seemed very distant when Max and John were photographed in this snapshot. Max was four months older than John; they were both born in 1924 and probably preparing to be sophomores in high school the September after this photograph was taken. If indeed this was taken at Sam Walker's 70th birthday party as I theorize, Germany's invasion of Poland was only five weeks away. |
