The red sweater in this picture was a gift of my paternal aunt, Helen Wuellner, and was either a Christmas or birthday present (I believe the latter). Helen lived in Chicago, and I still remember how excited I was when a package for me arrived from her, and the disgust I felt discovering it was only clothing. I remember having pictures taken in one session when a photographer came to our house (next photo in this series), but I believe this photograph was taken at National Studios in Burlington, Iowa, and I have no conscious recollection of when it was taken, even though I remember never caring for bow ties when I was a little kid. The innocence I seem to project was merely a ruse... |
