When Shirley and Beverly Broeker's mother Ruth died at the age of 24 in 1939, Shirley lived for a time with Clifford and Marguerite [Wyerman] Walker, and Beverly stayed with Myrtle [Walker] and Ted Dotson. Eventually their father Wally remarried [Ruth Wheeler] and they moved back to live with them. This was not the first time Clifford and Myrtle had shared responsibilities for their younger siblings. The Walker children who were older had taken on special responsibilities for their younger brothers and sisters as well in 1918 when their mother, Hattie, died. |
