This photograph (along with the captured caption) was published in the 1975 Centennial edition of the New London Journal. Edward Melvin Lee, pictured lower right, is the son of William Lee and Sarah Catherine [Hardin] Lee, the grandson of William Hardin and Prudence [Walker] Hardin. Ed, the third of four children in the family, was born August 21, 1871 (assumed in Iowa) and died August 31, 1943 in Los Angeles, California. The text of the caption under the photograph reads: THE NEW LONDON cornet band of 1895 posed on the steps of the three story building housing Shaner's Barber Shop, down half a flight from the street, the New London Banking Company, half a flight up from the street, and the NEW LONDON SUN [Newspaper] offices upstairs. Back row: Frank Clawson, Clarence Miller, George Fleenor, Dr. G. M. Van Ausdall. Flanking the drum: Frank Pierson, Charles Pierson. Kneeling next to front: Dr. Bert Crabb, Roger Hilleary, Prof. S. B.
