Edith Pauline [Hobbs/Delzell] Jacobs

E. Pauline Jacobs, 86, of Morning Sun, died Saturday morning, January 20, 2001, at Morning Sun Care Center.

Born October 3, 1914, in Grandview, she was the daughter of George N. and Mary Etta Dotson Hobbs. She married Bruce Caldwell Delzell on April 2, 1932, in Monmouth, Illinois He died January 1, 1946. She married David Milton Jacobs on July 1, 1949, in Wapello. He died in October 1959.

Mrs. Jacobs was a 1931 graduate of Morning Sun High School. She was a bookkeeper and retail clerk for the grocery stores in Morning Sun including the Economy, Baxter Food Market and Ben Tea Company. She later cooked at Henry Wagner Restaurant and then the Home Cafe, which she also owned and operated for a time. She then cooked at the nursing home from 1962 to 1975.

She was a member of First United Presbyterian Church and the Home Club and was a charter member of the TT Club, all of Morning Sun. She enjoyed reading, gardening and needlework, along with her passion for cooking.

Survivors include one son, Donald Delzell of St. Petersburg, Florida.; two daughters, Patricia Gotch of Streator, Illinois, and Debra Kiser of Apollo, Pennsylvania; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Howard Hobbs of Morning Sun; two stepsons, Bob Jacobs of Galesburg, Illinois, and David Jacobs of Mediapolis; one stepdaughter, Alice Kistler of Belleville, Illinois; 14 step-grandchildren; and many step-great-grandchildren.

Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Morning Sun, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Jacobs will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First United Presbyterian Church in Morning Sun, with the Reverend Jack Edmisson officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. A memorial has been established for her church.
