Lloyd G. Dotson, 71, of Geneseo, Illinois, died Thursday, May 30, 1996, in a plane wreck just east of Geneseo.
Born January 20, 1925, in Wapello, he was the son of David and Evelyn Green Dotson. He married Lola Gerth Sheese on June 28, 1953, in Muscatine.
Mr. Dotson served in the Army during World War II and was a P.O.W. in Germany. He was a 1950 graduate of the University of Iowa. He began working as an experimental design engineer for John Deere in 1951 and retired in 1982.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Geneseo, American Legion Post 350, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5083, Sterling-Rock Falls Chapter 410 and Quad Cities Chapter 75 of the National Experimental Aircraft Association, Midwest Antique Airplane Club, Blackhawk Aero Squadron and Illowa Sports Fliers. He loved building and flying airplanes.
Survivors include his wife; two stepsons, Carl Kane of Partola, California, and Warren Sheese of Shreveport, Louisiana; five step grandchildren; and seven step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his twin brother.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in Myers Chapel, Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Home, Geneseo, Illinois.
The funeral for Mr. Dotson will be 1030 a.m. Tuesday in Myers Chapel, with the Reverend David Esche officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in Wapello Cemetery, Wapello.
A memorial has been established for EAA Young Eagles.
