George Dotson

George Junior Dotson, 70, of Big Lake, Mo., died Sunday, Feb. 8, 1998, at his home.

He was born Aug. 17, 1927, in Wapello.

He was a 1945 graduate of Mediapolis High School, attended college for two years and served in the Air Force for 25 years, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant. He received several medals, including the Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, one with a V-Device, and a Purple Heart.

After the military, Mr. Dotson worked for EG&G Special Projects Division in Las Vegas, retiring in 1988 and moving to Big Lake where he operated The Eagle's Nest restaurant from 1990 until the Flood of 1993. Then he opened The Eagle's Nest II which he operated until 1995.

During the Flood of 1993, he assisted in serving meals for the Salvation Army and in relocating people and animals. He received the Missouri Outstanding Flood Volunteer Award from Gov. Mel Carnahan.

Survivors include five sons, Tim of Big Lake, Mo., Tony of Milwaukee, Wis., Tracy of Grand Prairie, Texas, Todd of St. Joseph, Mo., and Trent of Seattle, Wash.; one daughter, Tam Dobson of Milwaukee; three sisters, Donna Jonas of Seattle, Mabel Kelly of Mediapolis and Lucille Poggemiller of Lockhart, Texas; and numerous grandchildren.

Services were held Saturday in Mound City, Mo. Burial followed in National Cemetery at Fort Leavenworth, Kan.
