Text of Edith V. [Baxter] Dotson's Obituary:
(from the Morning Sun News-Herald, June 15, 1967.)Mrs. Edith DotsonMrs. Edith Dotson, 85, of Morning Sun, died Sunday in Evergreen nursing home, Cedar Rapids. She had been living at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Gilmore, at Cedar Rapids. Mrs. Dotson was the mother of Theodore R. Dotson of West Burlington and the sister of Charles Baxter and Mrs. Edna Peck, both of Burlington. She was the daughter of Jacob and Sarah Davis Baxter, and was born April 18, 1882, in Des Moines county. In 1899 she was married to the late Oscar Brown Dotson. Mr. Dotson was sexton of Elmwood cemetery for many years. Surviving Sons Cleao R. Dotson, Harvard, California; Boyd A. Dotson, Silvis, Illinois; Mark J. Dotson, Portland Oregon; Bert K. Dotson, Freeport, Illinois; Kenneth J. Dotson, Spokane, Washington; and Theodore R. Dotson; daughters Mrs. Verona V. Walker of New London and Geneva Gilmore; brothers Wilson Baxter of Sheffield, Illinois, and Charles Baxter; sisters Mrs. Martha Moyers, Elk Rivers, Minnesota and Mrs. Peck; 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. One child died previously. Services Pierce funeral home Wednesday at two, the Reverend Edward Fish, Elmwood cemetery. |
