Dorothy Leota Burgus was born on January 31, 1918 (or possibly 1919) in Sperry She graduated from Sperry High School in 1938. Dorothy died on November 10, 1998 in Genesis East Medical Center, Davenport, at age 80, and was buried on November 13, 1998 in Elmwood Cemetery. A resident of Morning Sun as an adult, Dorothy was a Methodist, a member of the Gospelaires and belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary. She loved gardening.
Dorothy married Garrett Dean ("Bucky") Crow, the son of Benjamin Crow and Irma Hoobler, on October 19, 1939 in Grandview, Louisa County, Iowa (or possibly in Cedar Rapids, Iowa). Bucky was born on March 30, 1912, and was raised by his aunt and uncle, Letha and Guy Hoobler. He died on June 19, 1982 in Iowa, at age 70, and was buried in Elmwood Cemetery.
Bucky and Dorothy had nine children: Garrett Dean known as "Dean," David Dale, who used his middle name, "Dale," Donna Kay, Doris Ann, Dennis Charles, Daniel Ray, Donald Benjamin, Darla Jean, and Denise Faye.
Garrett Dean Crow married Kathryn Louise Copeland and they had two children. Their daughter was Julie Faye Crow, who married Thomas Cox and had two children, Christofer Erin Cox and Miranda Elise Cox; and Dean and Kathryn's other child was son Brent Crow, who married Jodi Ann Christ and had two children, Nicholas John Crow and Brooke Ann Crow.
Bucky and Dorothy's son, David Dale Crow, married Sandi Jean Remranz, in Chicago, Illinois. They lived in Glen Ellyn, DuPage County, Illinois. They had two children, Sherri Lynn and David. Dale Crow next married Kathy Fleethart.
Bucky and Dorothy's daughter, Donna Kay Crow, married Larry Schrader and their children are Richard Lee Schrader, who married Stacey Ann Shafer in Wapello. Their children are: Ryan Lee Schrader, Dylan Jay Schrader, Kaylee Ann Schrader, and Kiley Elizabeth Schrader; and Donna and Larry's daughter is Robyn Lynn Schrader, who was born in Burlington. Robyn married Brian Hayes and their son was Nathan Lee Hayes. Robyn next married Jay G. B. Fraise in West Point, Lee County, Iowa. Their child was Jaynie Lynn Fraise, who was born in Fort Madison, Lee County. Robyn next married Troy Mitchell and they had three children, all of whom were born in Burlington: Mariah Kay Mitchell, Mica Lee Mitchell, and Keaton Thomas Mitchell.
Bucky and Dorothy's daughter, Doris Ann Crow, married Crotty A. Griffin and they had two children, Richard Allen Griffin, who married Sandra Dee Rottman. Richard and Sandra Griffin's children were Casee Lynn Griffin and Brady Allan Griffin. Doria and Crotty's son was Jason Crotty Griffin.
Bucky and Dorothy's son, Dennis Charles Crow, married Becky Richardson and they lived in Morning Sun. They had one child, Michael Crow, who married Angela Kristine Champlin.
Bucky and Dorothy's son, Daniel Ray Crow, was born in Burlington. He married Melody Kay Moore in Nashua, Chickasaw County, Iowa, and they live in Oakville, Louisa County, Iowa. She was a native of Barstow, San Bernardino County, California. They had three children: Chad Jeremy Crow, who was born on August 16, 1974 in Iowa City and died on October 4, 1974; Dani Michelle, who's married and has two children, Taylor Kay and Brendon Jeremy; and Tyler Ray Crow, who was born in Burlington.
Bucky and Dorothy's son, Donald Benjamin Crow, was born in Iowa on December 9, 1954, and died at age 30 on April 5, 1985 in Morning Sun. He's buried in Elmwood Cemetery. Donald married Gayla Hobbs, the daughter of Marvin Hobbs and Helen Dilts, and they had a daughter, Melissa Crow.
Bucky and Dorothy's daughter, Darla Jean Crow, was born on August 28, 1958. She married Larry Allen Smith, they live in Mount Pleasant, and they have three children: Jennifer Kay Crow, Larry Allen Crow, and Starla Kay Crow, who has a son, Christopher.
Jennifer Kay Crow had a child, Demante Isuauah. Jennifer married John W. Blankenship Jr., the son of John W. Sr. and Dorothy G. Blankenship, and they had two children, Marquiz Anthony Blankenship and Demetrius A. Blankenship. Demetrius was born on June 30, 1996 in Burlington, died before his first birthday on October 30, 1996, and was buried on November 3, 1996 in Babyland East of Forest Home Cemetery, Mount Pleasant.
Bucky and Dorothy's daughter, Denise Faye Crow, married John Winfield Gram III on May 9, 1997. They lived in Burlington.
Harold Samuel Burgus was born on March 5, 1920 in Sperry, died at age 81 on October 24, 2001 in Burlington, and was buried on October 27, 2001 in Kossuth Cemetery. He was a 1937 graduate of Sperry High School and an army veteran of World War II. He worked at Burlington Farm Machinery selling International Harvester products from 1943 to 1984, when he retired. Harold belonged to the American Legion and the First Congregational Church in Burlington. Born March 5, 1920, in Sperry, he was the son of Herbert C. and Daisy E. Marshall Burgus. On March 20, 1952, he married Jean Rowe in Grandview; they lived in Burlington,. Mr. Burgus sold International Harvester for Burlington Farm Machinery for 41 years. He retired in 1984.
Harold and Jean had three children: Gail Louise, Randall Albert, and Carolyn Mary.
Gail Louise Burgus married Steven Burnett in Burlington, they live in Anaheim, Orange County, California, and their three children are: Emily Agnes Burnett, Brittany Lee Burnett, and Courtney Lin Burnett, who was born in California.
Randall Albert Burgus was born in Burlington. He married Wendy Suzanne Smith in Burlington, where they make their home, and they have two children, Jacob Randall Burgus and Drake Alfred Burgus.
Carolyn Mary Burgus married Daryll Nelson. They live in Mount Pleasant, and have two children, Cassandra Gennie and Dylan Cooper.
Lavera Evelyn Burgus was born in Des Moines County. She married Robert Clarence Gerst, the son of Julius Gerst and Sarah Knapp, on November 3, 1943 in the Naval Air Station, Norfolk, (Norfolk City), Virginia. Robert was born on September 16, 1921 in Iowa and died at age 73 on October 8, 1994 in Des Moines County. They had four children: Jerald Robert, Judith Marie, John William, and Jane Evelyn.
Jerald Robert Gerst married Carole Karen Delany, the daughter of Elmer and Gertrude Delany. They had three children: Robert Severin Gerst, Jocelyn Coleen Gerst, and Jeremy Michael Gerst.
Judith Marie Gerst married John Edward Wade, the son of Olin and Mildred Wade. They had two children, Heather Janelle Gerst and Nicholas Jennings Gerst.
John William Gerst was born in Iowa. He married Joann Missavage Ehrler. She had two children from a previous marriage who took the Gerst name: Patricia Jo Gerst and Gea Carynn Gerst, who married Jamie Klenk. Gea and Jamie Klenk had one child, Caitlyn Kirsten.
Pauline Ruth Burgus married Wayne Irvin Kester, the son of Irvin Kester and Bernice Binder, in Sperry. They live in rural Burlington and have four children: Linda Ann Kester, who married Thomas Carl Jones, the son of Burl and Doris Jones, on February 3, 1974. Their children were Megan Esther Jones and Nathan Thomas Jones; Debra Sue Kester, who married Harold Robert Irwin, the son of Hoyt Irwin. They have one son, Kevin Robert Irwin; Gary Wayne Kester, who married Nancy Jane Horn, the daughter of Dale Horn and Lucille Wilson, in Pleasant Grove, Des Moines County. They have three children: Jo Anna Kester, Emily Ann Kester, and Conner Brian Kester; and Pauline and Wayne's other son is Brian Frederick Kester.
James Andrew Burgus was born on April 26, 1932 in Des Moines County died at age 65 on April 6, 1998 in the Burlington Medical Center, West Burlington, and was buried on April 10, 1998 in the Loper Cemetery. James was a US Army veteran of the Korean War, in the service until 1954. He worked from 1962 to 1980 in Burlington at the National Research Bureau, and from 1980 to 1998 at the Doran and Ward Printing Company. James was a member of the Sperry United Methodist Church.
James married Hazel Anna Robbins, the daughter of Walter Robbins and Josephine Liggett in Burlington. They had seven children: Timothy Charles, Thomas James, Twyla Marie, Terri Lynn, Trenton David Burgus, Tracey Herbert Burgus, and Travis Walter Burgus.
Timothy Charles Burgus, a resident of Burlington, married Maureen Joan Miller. They had three children: Justin Andrew Burgus, born in Burlington, who married Tyra Shell Garrison; Aaron David Burgus, who married Amanda. Their child is Brayden Aaron Burgus; and David Timothy Burgus, who was born in Burlington. Timothy Charles Burgus next married Karla B. Waste. They had one child, Todd Joseph. Timothy next married Nancy Dickey in Burlington.
Thomas James Burgus married Janice Staats, the daughter of Elmer Staats and Ann Cline. They had two children, Jason Louis Burgus, who married Theresa Brush; and Brandon James Burgus, who was born in Burlington. Thomas next married Doddie Spears.
Twyla Marie Burgus was born on April 19, 1960 in Burlington. Twyla married Robert Dean Crawford. They live in Burlington.
Terri Lynn Burgus married Gary Russell, the son of Fay Russell and Suzanne. They had two children, Joshua Allen Russell and Ryan Lee Russell. The family lives in Biggsville, Henderson County, Illinois.
