Pearl and Jessie were very active in the Methodist Church in Morning Sun. Their great granddaughter, Joy Conwell, remembers his house for the use of Ivory Soap, and also remembers when she was a child that Pearl kept an outhouse which he occasionally used when he was working outside, even though he and Jessie had indoor plumbing. Pearl lived in assorted places throughout his life. In about 1880 his parents, George and Rebecca Moyers, took the family to Peabody Kansas for four years. They returned not long after Pearl's grandfather, Sam Moyers, retired from the Benton Township farm he owned to Mediapolis, Iowa. In 1885 George Moyers and family were also living in Mediapolis next to Sam and Lucy Moyers. By 1895 the family had moved to Louisa County.

As an adult Pearl lived in Yellow Spring Township in Des Moines County (in 1900) after buying a ninety-five acre farm from Richard Orr, which he improved, before eventually returning to Louisa County to farm near Newport. In 1926 Pearl and Jessie moved into Morning Sun.

Halleck Roy Moyer and His Wife, Mathilda Catherine Baxter

JOSEPH MOYERS >> JACOB MOYERS >> SAMUEL NELSON MOYERS >>
GEORGE WASHINGTON EARL MOYERS >> HALLECK ROY MOYER

Halleck Roy (known as Hal or Hally) Moyer was born on September 27, 1889 in Louisa County, Iowa and died in October 1974 in Elk River, Sherburne County, Minnesota, at age 85. Hally removed the final "s" from the Moyers name and went by the name of Moyer, though apparently this happened after 1920 as in that US census the family name was still listed as "Moyers."

Hally married Mathilda Catherine Baxter, known as "Martha" or "Mattie," the daughter of Peter J. and Sadie M. Baxter on October 7, 1908. Her father, Peter, was a native of Virginia, and mother, Sadie, a native of Ohio. Martha was born on September 18, 1888 in Des Moines County and died at age 88 in May 1977 in Elk River, Sherburne County, Minnesota. Her sister, Edith V. Baxter, was the wife of Oscar B. Dotson, who was the mother of Theodore Roosevelt Dotson and Verona V. Dotson, those being children who married Hattie Mae (Moyers) Walker's children, (Zella) Myrtle Walker and George Percy Walker, respectively.

Martha and Hally moved to Elk River in Sherburne County, Minnesota, apparently around 1919. They had at least three children: Dwight B. Moyer, Hal R. Moyer Jr., and Roberta Moyer. These three children were all born in Iowa.

Dwight B. Moyer was born on August 16, 1909 and died in April 1986 in Elk River, Sherburne County, Minnesota, at age 76.

Hal R. Moyer, Hally Moyers' son, was born on November 6, 1915 and died on September 30, 1999, at age 83. He was married to a woman named Grace.
