1831 Indian Treaty - Andrew Jackson Land Grant

1831 Indian Treaty - Andrew Jackson Land Grant

This document was sold on eBay in the year 2000. It is a grant of land in Ohio given to a "Nathaniel Fox" by Andrew Jackson as payment for services rendered in the War of 1812. Although this land would not have been given to the Nathaniel Fox who married Kitturah McFarland in our family tree, it could have been to his father, Nathaniel Fox. Clicking on the main photo above will give you a larger picture of the document, though the text is still unclear. Here is a larger blowup of the signature of Andrew Jackson.

The following description was given of this document:

This is an authentic signature of President Andrew Jackson.

This is the only land grant mentioning Indian Treaty and 1812, actually signed by Jackson, that I have seen.

Manuscript Document Signed: "Andrew Jackson" as President, on vellum, November 1, 1831, Washington, approximately 12.5" x 14".

The top reads: No. 10015 / 500 acres / Andrew jackson / President of the United States of America / To all to whom these Presents shall come Greeting

Know Ye That in consideration of Military Service performed by Nathanial Fox a Captain for seven years and nine months to the United States in the Virginia Line on Continental Establishment...There is granted...unto Nathanial Fox a certain Tract of Land containing five hundred acres sitaute north west of the river Ohio north of the Indian Boundary line established by the Treaty of Greenville and east of the line run by Charles Roberts under the authority of the United States Commissioners in the year 1812, as by Survey bearing date The twenty fourth day of March 1820 and bounded and described as follows...

Andrew Jackson's signature measures over 5" long.

Countersigned by Land Commissioner Elijah Hayward. The white paper seal is still present.

This document was purchased by a friend from respected autograph dealer Barb Pengally. She matted the document to museum standards in a suede-like matt. A very nice copy of a Jackson lithograph is mounted alongside the land grant, making a beautiful display.

Overall measurements are 23.75" x 17.75"

This document is absolutely guaranteed to be hand-signed by Andrew Jackson. Comes with a Certificate of Authenticity issued by Barb Pengally, as well as my personal guarantee.
