Dear Cousin,
I take the present opportunity of writing you a few lines in answer to your kind(?) letter that I received some time a go, to do which I have delayed till the presant time of answering, but you must excuse me this time & I will try and do better next time. But you (k)now a soldier has not got the chance that a Blacksmith has, if you think not why you just try it. If you can, tell how it goes & like it tolerable well, but I would rather hug a girl than stand gard. But I have to dispense of that now. But I recond you make it up for me at least. (cont. >>>)
