John J. Lee was the son of Frederick Lee and Eliza Smith, and he was the brother of Green Lee of New London, Iowa. John was the nephew of John P. Lee.

Lee, John J., far[mer]., S. 12; P.O. New London; owns fifty acres valued at $40 per acre: born in Henry County Iowa, in 1836; on the section where he now lives. Married Miss Addie O'Neal in 1862; she was from Des Moines County; have three children - Harvey P., Charley A. and Rosa A. Mr. Lee has been Bond Supervisor; is School Director. Members of the United Brethren Church; Republican.
