Thomas Walker - Short Bio

Thomas Walker was the son of George and Julian Jean [Welsh] Walker. He was born December 19, 1802 in Knox County, Tennessee, and moved with the family to Indiana by 1820. Unlike many of his siblings who continued on west as territories opened up, Thomas remained in Indiana for the rest of his life.

Thomas married Ann Covert (born June 19, 1812 in Mercer County, Kentucky) on September 24, 1829, in Johnson County, Indiana. She was the daughter of John Johannis van Arsdale Covert of Pennsylvania and Catherine Verbryck of New Jersey.

Ann and Thomas had six children:

• Julia Catherine Walker, born September 10, 1830 in Johnson County, Indiana, died January 24, 1898 in Kirklin, Clinton County, Indiana. Julie married William Ditto Amos (born September 8, 1828, died 1808). Julie and William had seven children: Minerva Anne, William Thomas, David Sidney, George Washington, Rebecca Jane, Sarah Eliz Ellen, and John Henry Amos.
• Elizabeth Ann Walker, born February 8, 1833 in Johnson County, Indiana, died before 1927. Elizabeth married Jackson Hann (born circa. 1829) August 27, 1848.
• Rebecca Jane Walker, born January 6, 1835 in Johnson County, Indiana, died May, 1911. Rebecca married John Jackson Voris (born circa. 1831) on April 11, 1859.
• George Washington Walker, born May 25, 1837 and died May 25, 1863, both in Johnson County, Indiana. Before 1859 George married Eliza A. Morgan (born October 9, 1834 and died January 3, 1886 in Litchfield, Meeker County, Minnesota). George and Eliza had three children: William Hoodley, Mary Etta, and George W. Walker.
• Mary Elenore Vandelina Walker, born September 15, 1841 in Johnson County, Indiana. Mary married Henry E. Freeman (born circa. 1837) in 1870.
• John Thomas Walker, born February 2, 1851 in Johnson County, Indiana, died August 22, 1852.
