Leander Walker - Short Bio

Leander Walker was born October 4, 1836 to Francis Samuel and Catherine [Pearsey] Walker. He was an older brother of Charles Pearsey Walker. In 1856, Francis Walker's family moved to Iowa; in 1861 Leander returned to Indiana and remained there until he died in 1900 in the city of Greenfield. He was a blacksmith by profession, as his father, Francis S., had been during his years in Milton, Indiana.

Leander married a woman named Olive (Walker?) in 1864 and she died after the birth of their first child, Charles F. Walker. Charles was sent to Iowa and was raised by Leander's parents, Francis (Sam) and Catherine. In 1872 Leander remarried - a woman named Mary Eliza Walsh, who was an immigrant to the United States from Ireland. Mary and Leander had three boys: William Walker, born December 20, 1872 in Indiana and died December 3, 1913 in Greenfield, Hancock County, Indiana; Bernard L. Walker, born July 26, 1875 and died July 22, 1899 in Greenfield, Hancock County, Indiana; and Edward E. Walker, born February 1880 and died June 19, 1896 in Indiana. Mary Walsh Walker died January 13, 1917 in Fortville, Hancock County, Indiana. The entire family is buried at Park Cemetery near Greenfield.
