Charles Pearsey Walker - Short Bio
Charles Pearsey Walker was born April 13, 1843 in Wayne County, Indiana, and died March 8, 1922 in Louisa County, Iowa.
Despite being an unwilling soldier at times, Charles survived the Civil War and married Ruth Ellen Fox July 4, 1868 in Henry County, Iowa. Ruth was born April 16, 1851 in Henry County, Iowa, and died December 29, 1889 in Louisa County, Iowa. Ruth's father was Nathaniel Fox of Rose Garden, King William County, Virginia; he lived from June 1, 1805 to September 3, 1887; Nathaniel died in Nebraska. Her mother was Kitturah McFarland. Kitturah was born June 12, 1812 in Ohio, and died February 5, 1877 in New London, Henry County, Iowa.
After being a widower for some years, Charles later married the widow Sarah A. Houseman on July 6, 1902. She was the daughter of Jacob Houseman and Susanna Spearman, and had survived her first husband, Thomas Edgar, who had died May 20, 1886 when he was accidentally killed by an axe that fell out of a tree and hit him. In her old age Sarah was blind, a state caused by the black dye in the veil she wore at her husband's funeral in 1886; it bled and "poisoned her eyes!"
Charles and Ruth Ellen [Fox] Walker had the following children:
- Samuel Nathaniel Walker,1869-1957, whose own synopsis explains in detail his two marriages, children, and vital dates.
- Everna Walker, born April 25, 1873. Everna died April 25, 1951. She married Eli C. Frizzell. They had nine children.
- Albert Walker, who died as a baby. He was born January 15, 1876 and died November 18, 1876.
- Thomas Walker, born November 2, 1877 and died November 26, 1968 in Louisa County, Iowa. Thomas never married.
- Leander C. (Lee) Walker. Lee was born May 8, 1881 and died in 1968 in Henry County, Iowa. He married Aleta M. Hewitt (December 14, 1890 - December 1982).
- Flossie Z. Walker, born April 18, 1884 during Charles Pearsey's family's trip/move to Texas. Flossie died June 11, 1968 in Wapello, Iowa. She married John Russell of Fonda, Pocahontas County, Iowa, on December 24, 1903 in Morning Sun, Iowa. He lived from September 9, 1882 until November 3, 1967. John and Flossie had no children; but they raised a foster child, Byron Ernst, who later married into the Walker family (Clara E. Walker).
- James G. (Jim) Walker, who was born January 19, 1887 in Louisa County, Iowa and died in September, 1973 in Mt. Pleasant (Henry County), Iowa. Jim married Mildred Beauchamp, was later divorced from her, and thereafter married a woman named Lottie. Jim had no children with either wife.
- John Walker, who was born November 14, 1889 and died in infancy on February 13, 1890.
Charles Pearsey Walker died March 8, 1922 at home in Morning Sun, Iowa. He was buried next to Ruth Ellen Fox in Ferrel Cemetery near New London, Henry County, Iowa. Sarah [Houseman/Edgar] Walker, a widow again, went to Mississippi to live with a daughter and/or granddaughter where she died after 1936, very elderly indeed!
