Elizabeth Etta (Betty) [Hatt] Walker - Short Bio
Betty Walker was Samuel Clinton Walker's (March 27, 1910 - October 20, 1991) wife and Jerry Dean Walker's mother. She was a born in Johnson County, Iowa, and lived all of her life in or around Iowa City and Cedar Rapids. Betty's parents were Alexander H. and Elizabeth [Tice] Hatt. Her father was a native of Canada and her mother came from the Amish community near Kalona, Iowa. Betty and Sam were married July 6, 1935 in Monmouth, Warren County, Illinois. Betty graduated from Marion High School in 1933. She worked for 28 years as a secretary and bookkeeper for a lumber company in Cedar Rapids, and was also active in several organizations in the Linn county area. Betty's parents were Alexander and Elizabeth [Tice] Hatt. One brother, Harry Hatt, worked for many years in the Burlingon, Iowa, Parks and Recreation department. In addition to Betty and Harry Hatt, the other siblings in the family were: Jeanne [Hatt] McArthur, John Hatt, Helen [Hatt] Cooper, Mary [Hatt] Cira, Richard Hatt, R. L. Hatt, Vince Hatt, and Thomas Hatt.
