[Albert] Ross Walker - Short Bio

Albert Ross Walker (known by his middle name "Ross." as is very often the Walker custom), the son of Sam and Hattie [Moyers] Walker, was born December 24, 1899 in Near Newport, Louisa County, Iowa. He attended the local, one room, Midway School. At age twenty-one, on February 23, 1922, he married Vinnie Westfall (February 3, 1903 - September 23, 1976). She was one of six children of a local farmer, Jacob Westfall (February 28, 1866 - March 31, 1942) and his wife Eva Robinson (August 4, 1877 - April 8, 1955). Ross and Vinnie continued their parents' tradition and occupation by farming in Louisa County.

During their twelve year marriage, Ross and Vinnie had four children. Ross died from spinal meningitis when he was 35 years old on May 15, 1936 at the family farm southwest of Morning Sun, Iowa. His widow, Vinnie, moved the children to Burlington, (Des Moines County) Iowa after his death. She raised their children as a single mother after her husband's death, not an easy task during the era of her lifespan.

The children of Ross and Vinnie Walker are:

Donald Ross Walker, born December 1, 1922 and died September 17, 2000. Donald was, as an adult, a resident of New York State. He died in Schenectady. Donald married Charlotte Mary Vogt and later Carol Anne O'Keefe. He and Charlotte had two children: Katherine Ann Walker, who married Gary Donald Miller; and Donald Ross Walker.

Ralph Leroy Walker who married Edith Arlene Ibbotson. Ralph and Arlene live in Urbandale, Iowa, and they have two children: Thomas Michael Walker, who is married to Julie Ann Johanson; and Rev. Timothy Joseph Walker, married to Nancy Ruth Moore.

Lela Maxine Walker, born September 10, 1929, and died October 15, 1977. Lela was married to Marlane Walter Miller, and they had two sons: Craig Marlane Miller, who married Teresa Marie Bonebrake; and Richard Allen Miller, who married Ning Fen Chang.

Kenneth Phillip Walker, who is married to the former Carol Ann Trostle. Kenneth and Carol live in Terre Haute, Indiana, and have a son, Michael Kenneth Walker.
