Geoffrey Paul Umphrey - Short Bio
Geoffrey Paul Umphrey, who was the son of Thomas J. and Mary B. [Copeland] Umphrey, was born December 5, 1897 in Louisa County, Iowa, and died March 9, 1931, in Mt. Pleasant, Henry County, Iowa, several days after surgery.
He married Maude Mae Walker on October 14, 1914 in Louisa County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Samuel Walker and Hattie Mae Moyers.
Geoffrey and Maude had these four children:
- Thelma Umphrey, who married Lloyd Allen (June 3, 1911 - February 12, 1917) and later John Bearde.
- Margretta Umphrey, born December 28, 1920 in Iowa; she died April 22, 1953, in Michigan. Margretta married David Howey.
- Thomas Umphrey, born September 29, 1922 in Iowa; died December 10, 1996 in Pontiac, Michigan. Tommy married Helen Collingwood in 1942, in Michigan
- Paul Eugene Umphrey, who married Lois Thibodean.
Geoffrey is buried beside Maude and her second husband, Roy Fortner, in Elmwood Cemetery, Morning Sun, Louisa County, Iowa.
