Flossie Z. [Walker] Russell - Short Bio

Flossie Walker was born in Texas in 1884 when her father, Charles Pearsey Walker, took the family south in an attempt to aid the health of his wife, Ruth Ellen [Fox], who suffered from, and eventually succumbed to, tuberculosis. The family returned to Iowa after traveling to Nebraska for a time (probably visiting Ruth Ellen's sister, Elizabeth Fox Sampson, and her family), and after their return they settled in Louisa County where Flossie lived the rest of her life. She was married to John Franklin Russell December 24, 1903 in Morning Sun, Iowa at her father's newly built home near Newport, Iowa. John Russell was born September 9, 1882 in Iowa, and died November 3, 1967 in Wapello. They had no children, but one foster child, Byron Ernst, who married Clara Elizabeth Walker, a daughter of Charles Francis Walker and his wife, Jessie D. [Vaughn] Walker. Flossie died in 1970 in Wapello, Iowa.

Flossie is responsible for identifying many of the family photos on these pages; without the notes she wrote on them when she was alive, there would be a lot less information available to us today.
