Jack Pilling of rural Mediapolis, Iowa, was born December 31, 1900, the son of Charles B. Pilling and Alice Sarah [Seeds] Pilling (Alice was the daughter of Harvey Seeds).

February 28, 1923 in Des Moines County, Iowa, he married Lottie Bernice Moyers (April 16, 1901 - March 14, 1988), the daughter of Pearl Alfred Moyers and Jessie Mae Swan.

Lottie and Charles Pilling had two children:

Ray Wayne Pilling was born on February 20, 1929, died on June 7, 1989 and was buried in Kossuth Cemetery, Des Moines County, Iowa. Another name Ray was known by was R. W. Pilling. Ray married Mary Alice Harsh. Children from this marriage were:

Allison Rae Pilling, who married Donald Ray Klein.
