Elizabeth Ann [Myers] Lakin - Short Bio
Elizabeth Myers, the eldest child in her family, was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, and moved with her parents, Jacob and Sarah [Rogers] Moyers to Greene County, Illinois, in 1826. In 1839 when most of the Moyers family (spelled Myers sometimes, as Elizabeth kept that spelling) left to move to Des Moines County, Iowa, Elizabeth remained in Greene County where she married Jordan Albert Lakin. They were wed on October 13, 1839. Eliza and Jordan had the following children:
- Melissa J. Lakin, who was born in 1842 in Greene County, Illinois, and died July 3, 1906. Melissa married Thomas A. Kelly May 29, 1868 in Greene County, Illinois.
- John Jacob Lakin, who was born September 10, 1842 in Greene County, Illinois, and died April 25, 1913 in Doniphan County, Kansas. He was buried April 27, 1913 in Wathena, Doniphan County, Kansas. John married Anna Emzy Norman, who was born September 10, 1854 in Saint Joseph, Buchanan County, Missouri, and died August 1, 1929 in Saint Joseph, Buchanan County, Missouri. Anna is buried in the Belemont Cemetery, Wathena, Doniphan County, Kansas. John and Anna were married March 10, 1872 in Missouri.
- Austin J. Lakin, who was born 1844, and died July 24, 1871. Austin was married to Sarah Ellison, who was born 1844, and died September 17, 1872. Their marriage was November 13, 1866 in Greene County, Illinois.
- Leander R. Lakin, who was born December 17, 1847, and died October 22, 1897. Leander married Henrietta Sayles Brace November 28, 1874 in Greene County, Illinois. Leander and she had at least five children: Leela Lakin, who was born December 1875, and died August 1877. Leela is buried in the Carrollton Cemetery, Greene County, Illinois; also Jordan Lakin (Jr., named after his grandfather); Eliza Lakin (named after his grandmother); Emily Lakin; and Jesse Lakin.
- Sarah E. Lakin, who was born 1849 in Greene County, Illinois.
- Mary A. Lakin, who was born March 28, 1851 in Greene County, Illinois, and died March 3, 1920.
- Harriet Lakin, who was born August 13, 1855 in Greene County, Illinois, and died November 1, 1860. Harriet is buried in the Hopewell Cemetery, Greene County, Illinois.
- Georgia O. Lakin, who was born October 6, 1855 in Greene County, Illinois, and died February 4, 1862. George is also bureid in the Hopewell Cemetery.
- Lutitia Lulu Lakin, who was born 1859 in Greene County, Illinois. Lutitia married Louis F. Gimmy March 17, 1886 in Greene County, Illinois.
