(Susannah) Jane [Moyers] Rexroat - Short Bio

Susan (sometimes apparently also called Jane) Moyers was the daughter of Jacob and Sarah [Rogers] Moyers, the sixth of nine known children born to them. She was born in Greene County, Illinois, in 1831, and moved with her family to Des Moines County, Iowa, in 1839. In 1850 she married James Morris Rexroat; the wedding was at the home of her father, Jacob. Soon thereafter in 1853 James and Susan moved to McDonough County, Illinois, where he farmed and imported horses.

Susan and James Rexroat had twelve (or thirteen) children and the following known descendants:

  • Lawson T. Rexroat, who was born July 5, 1851 in Des Moines County, Iowa. Lawson died in 1917 in McDonough County, Illinois and is buried in the Pennington Point Cemetery, New Salem Township in that county. Lawson married (Mintie) Alice Rexroat (perhaps a cousin?), who was born in 1856 in Morgan County, Illinois and died September 4, 1925 in Macomb. They were married September 2, 1875 in Morgan County, and they had the following known children: Lela S. Rexroat, who was born in 1878. She married Albert C. Burnham (born, unknown, died, January 31, 1944 in Macomb) on February 2, 1899; Sarah Rexroat; Harvey Earl Rexroat, whose birth date is unknown but he died May 18, 1880; and Alta J. Rexroat.
  • Eliza Rexroat, who was born 1854 in McDonough County. Eliza married Oliver Thompson, who was born in 1850. They were married on September 4, 1877 in McDonough County.
  • Winfield Rexroat, who was born in 1856 in McDonough County, Illinois and died in May 18, 1926 in Macomb. Winfield married Minnie Ripp, who was born in 1857 in Indiana and died in June 15, 1916 in Morgan County, Illinois. They were married December 13, 1876 in Jacksonville, McDonough County, Illinois. Winfield and Minnie had a daughter: Leoni Rexroat, who was born in 1879.
  • Sarah Rexroat, who was born in 1857 in McDonough County, and died February 18, 1924 in Macomb. Sarah married John W. Barnhart on December 7, 1882 in McDonough County.
  • William Henry Rexroat, who was born December 10, 1859 in McDonough County, Illinois, and died May 15, 1917. William was the husband of Mary F. Landis, who was born September 21, 1862 and died May 5, 1961 in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri. Bill and Mary were married on November 10, 1881 in McDonough County,. They had the following children/descendants:
    • Everett Arthur Rexroat, who was born February 3, 1883, and died December 10, 1966.
    • Bertha Sarah Rexroat, who was born August 10, 1886 in Saline County, Nebraska and died (at an unknown date) in Kansas City, Missouri. Bertha married James Garfield Kirkpatrick, who was born December 26, 1879 in Macomb, and died November 29, 1966 in Nevada, Vernon County, Missouri. Bertha and James were married May 24, 1905 in Saline County, Nebraska. James was buried in the Oakwood Cemetery, Macomb. Bertha and James had the following children:
      • Dale Melvin Kirkpatrick, who was born April 29, 1909 in Macomb, and died March 18, 1971 in Leavenworth, Leavenworth County, Kansas. Dale married Parma Dixon Leinbach, who was born July 1, 1908 in Onaga, Pottawatomie County, Kansas and died in July, 1987 in California. Dale and she had three children: a baby born stillborn; David Melvin Kirkpatrick, who married Barbara Nevon Wyant, and had a daughter, Amy Elizabeth. Amy married Daniel Hoglund and they had a son, Jordan Lane Hoglund; David and Barbara also had two sons, Marshall Lane and Neil McKennon Kirkpatrick; Dale and Parm's daughter (third child) was Rosemary Bertha Kirkpatrick, who married James Grimes.
      • Clarence Lane Kirkpatrick, who married Mary Gilkerson.
      Bertha Sarah Rexroat also married Jonathan Bourke.
  • Jordan H. Rexroat, who was born April 24, 1862 in Macomb, Illinois. Jordan married Viola A. Greenup, who was born February 10, 1867 in Illinois. They were married October 24, 1883 in McDonough County. Jordan and Viola had eight children: Lewis, Ruby, Leroy, Lee, Mae, Ethel, Bessie, and James.
  • Tellus (several spelling variations exist, including Teleous) C. Rexroat, who was born in 1865 and died in 1926. Tellus is buried in the Pennington Point Cemetery, New Salem Township, McDonough County, Illinois. December 5, 1886 Teleous was married to Linnie Chandler, who was born in 1869 and died October 28, 1925 in Blue Ridge Township, Piatt County, Illinois. They had a daughter: Florence May Rexroat, who was born in 1888 in Illinois and died in 1917 in McDonough County, Illinois.
  • Robert H. Rexroat, who was born in 1870; he married a woman named Laura Idella (? - unknown last name) on February 9, 1892 in Morgan County, Illinois. Robert died January 26, 1947 in Colchester, McDonough County, Illinois; Laura died March 19, 1923 in Macomb.
  • Edgar Lee Rexroat ("Lee"), who was born May 8, 1872. May 17, 1894, he married Ellena Curnow, in McDonough County, Illinois. They had two sons, Delbert and Dale.
  • Frederick Dent Rexroat, who was born February 1, 1875. Frederick was married to Alta B. Boothe December 24, 1899 in McDonough County, Illinois.
  • Ulysses Rexroat, died in infancy.
  • Granville Rexroat, died in infancy.

Additionally a child, Lilly Belle Rexroat, born about 1870, was at least cared for by the family; whether or not she was adopted, a relative's daughter, or a daughter of Jane and James' is not presently known.

After the death of Susan [Moyers] Rexroat, James Morris Rexroat married Matilda Medora Manlove, November 21, 1895 in Rushville, Schuyler County, Illinois. James Morris Rexroat died October 6, 1914 in Macomb and is buried in the Pennington Cemetery; Matilda Rexroat died August 8, 1938 in McDonough County.
