Rebecca E. [Pence] Moyers - Short Bio

Rebecca Pence was born April 10, 1847 in what later would become West Virginia to Jonathan S. Pence and Mary Tutwiler. Her father, Jonathan, was a native of Rockingham County, Virginia, born June 28, 1810. He died of exposure during the Civil War June 2, 1865 in Alexandria, Virginia. Rebecca's mother, Mary, was born circa 1815 in Eastern Virginia and died in 1848 in Virginia. There were two other sisters in Rebecca's family: Margaret E. and Mary V. Pence. After her father died, Rebecca soon moved with her sister, Mary, and Mary's husband, Martin Dean, to Iowa.

Rebecca married George W. E. Moyers (born April 12, 1849) on November 11, 1869 in Des Moines County, Iowa. They had ten children between 1871 and 1889.

Rebecca died in 1917 and is buried in Elmwood Cemetery near Morning Sun in Louisa County, Iowa. Her husband, George, would live until March 28, 1926. He is also buried at Elmwood.
