Sarah Ann [Houseman/Edgar] Walker - Short Bio
On July 6, 1902, Sarah Houseman, who survived Thomas Edgar, married Charles Pearsey Walker, son of Francis Samuel Walker and Catherine Pearsey. Known as "Grandma Sallie," Sarah was blind, and her blindness had transpired through a coarse accident. At her husband Thomas's funeral, the black veil she wore "poisoned" her eyes, and after suffering for several months, she became blinded by this unfortunate ironic incident. Still she was reported as being a cheery person, and after thirty years of blindness she composed a poem, which has a link below in the Related Information section.
Sarah was born to Jacob Houseman and Susanna R. Spearman September 8, 1848 in Mount Pleasant, Henry County, Iowa. Sarah was one of eight children, her siblings were John, James, Alice, Alva, Belle, Elvira, and William Houseman. Her father (March 29, 1815 - May 4, 1891) was a native of Washington County, Pennsylvania and her mother (January 17, 1827 - August 25, 1897) a native of Franklin County, Kentucky. Jacob Houseman and Susanna Spearman were married in Mount Pleasant, Iowa on June 4, 1844.
Sarah married Thomas Edgar February 25, 1869 at her father's home in Henry County. They had eight children before Thomas had an untimely accident with an ax that fell out of a tree and hit him. He died from this bizarre incident May 20, 1886, and is buried in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Center Township, Henry County, Iowa.
Some years later, Sarah, the widow, married Charles Pearsey Walker, the widower, as his wife, Ruth [Ellen] Fox, had also died (from tuberculosis). In 1922 Charles Pearsey Walker died, and Sarah moved to Mississippi to live with her daughter Mattie Estelle [Edgar] Moscrop and her granddaughter, Mattie's daughter, Mildred [Moscrop] Williams. Sarah died in Mississippi after 1936, although the exact date is not known.
Sarah's first marriage to Thomas Edgar produced these eight children:

Burr and Mattie were married July 7, 1900 at the residence of Thomas A. Buckingham, Mattie's brother-in-law, in Henry County, Iowa. Mattie and Burr had at least one daughter, Mildred B. Moscrop, who married a man named Wilson (Mattie and her daughter Mildred, as stated above, tended to Sarah in her later years).
