David Dotson - Short Bio

David Dotson was a Pennsylvania native, whose father, Daniel Dotson, had emigrated to America from the British Isles; Daniel was from Wales. David's mother, Mary [Sutton] Dotson, was a native of England.

David was one of at least six children in his family, the others being John, Sarah, Samuel, Ester Ann, and Bazzel S. Dotson. Nothing is presently known of John, Sarah, and Samuel. Ester Ann (August 17, 1812 - October 17, 1901) married a man named John White (May 03, 1817 - November 10, 1880) and they followed David and Bazzel to Louisa County, Iowa in 1853. David and Bazzel S. Dotson and their families moved there previously in 1844.

David was born October 2, 1818 and died December 9, 1898. He married Mary Jackman (August 28, 1826 - June 29, 1908), also of Pennsylvania. They had at least eight children:

  • John Thomas Dotson, born January 18, 1848 in Louisa County, Iowa, and died September 12, 1863 in Louisa County, Iowa. John was buried in the Fairview Cemetery, Wapello Township, Louisa County, Iowa.
  • Bazzel Luthur Dotson, born June 26, 1849 in Louisa County, Iowa, and died February 01, 1927 in Shelby, Polk County, Nebraska. He married Eliza Jane Paisley, born April 15, 1852 in Louisa County, Iowa, and died October 24, 1864 in Shelby, Polk County, Nebraska.
  • William Dotson, born April 22, 1852, and died October 24, 1864; William is buried in the Fairview Cemetery.
  • Samuel Dotson, born March 25, 1858 in Louisa County, Iowa, and died 1931. February 03, 1900 Sam married Nellie E. Brady, born June 26, 1886, and died January 26, 1918. Their daughter was Mary Evelena Dotson, whosse vital dates are not known. Sam and Nellie were buried in the Fairview Cemetery, Wapello Township, Louisa County, Iowa.
  • Nancy Jane Dotson, born April 08, 1860, and died October 20, 1864; she was buried in the Fairview Cemetery, Wapello Township, Louisa County, Iowa.
  • Hattie Kate Dotson, born April 06, 1866, and died 1949; buried in Fairview Cemetery.
  • George Workman Dotson, born November 16, 1867 in Louisa County, Iowa, and died February 16, 1920 in Louisa County, Iowa was buried in 1920 in Fairview Cemetery, Wapello Township, Louisa County, Iowa. The complete lineage of George W. and his wife Mary Lucy [Moyers] Dotson is listed under their own alpha index entries.
  • O. Ella Dotson, who married Lafe Packwood, lived in Nebraska and had five children: Earnest, Oma, Marion, Naomi, and Ralph Packwood.
