Martin Dean - Short Bio
Martin Dean was a great grandson of John and Mary [Knicely] Dean. Born in Barbour County, Virginia in 1838, Martin grew to adulthood there and married Mary V. Pence, the daughter of Jonathan and Mary [Tutweiler] Pence. They were married September 11, 1862 in Upshur County, West Virginia. Jonathan Pence died during the course of the Civil War, and not long afterwards Martin and Mary Dean, along with Rebecca Pence, Mary's sister, moved to Iowa. Martin and Mary Dean settled in Cass County, Iowa.
Martin is related to the Moyers family two ways: via Lucinda Hopkins Deen, a cousin, and through his marriage to Rebecca Pence Moyers' sister.
