Edith Dotson was a native of Northfield in Des Moines County, Iowa. She was born April 18, 1882 to Peter Jacob ("Jacob") and Sarah M. [Davis] Baxter ("Sadie"), natives of Virginia and Ohio respectively. They had at least eight known children: James F. (about 1876 - August 11, 1957), Edith V. of this narrative, David (abt 1886 - ?, died before Edith in 1967), Mathilda Catherine ("Martha,") (September 18, 1888 - May 1977); Martha was the wife of Halleck Roy Moyer(s), Wilson (September 16, 1891 - October 12, 1990), Edna (September 15, 1895 - January 1986), Charles (April 13, 1899 - August 1971), and one sibling whose name is not known.
Edith married Oscar B. Dotson (July 1881 - December 01, 1948) and they had eight children, two of whom, Ted and Verona Dotson, married siblings Myrtle and George Walker, the children of Sam N. and Hattie Mae [Moyers] Walker.

Edith was cared for in her later years by her daughter Geneva Gilmore, who lived in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Edith died in Cedar Rapids in June, 1967. She is buried at Elmwood Cemetery outside Morning Sun, Iowa.
