Mary [Anderson] Walker - Short Bio

Mary Anderson, the daughter of Irish immigrants, was the wife of William Pearsey Walker, and the mother of his nine children. William and Mary were married before 1866 and divorced by the early years of the twentieth century. It is presently not known where Mary Walker is buried, or her exact birth or death dates. She was still living in 1914 as she is mentioned in letters written by her children.

Mary and William's children were:

  • Louisa Walker, born in 1866,
  • and Francis Walker [m], born in 1868, both died as toddlers in 1871 from diphtheria.
  • Alice Walker, born August 17, 1871 in New London, Henry County, Iowa, died in northeast Missouri in Hurdland, Knox County between November 20 - 24, 1959. On December 30, 1896, in Wapello, Louisa County, Iowa, Alice married Henry Allen Gregory, born unknown (apparently in Louisa County); Henry died November 25, 1959 in Hurdland. He was blind. Alice and Gregory's children were Wallace Gregory, Mildred Kathryn Gregory (who married Duane Fremont Craven), and Grace Gregory (who married Oliver Thomas when she was about age 50).
  • Edward A. Walker (known as "Sap" or "Ed" of course), born about 1875, died (after 1920) in Brush, Morgan County, Colorado, where he had been a barber. Ed was married before June 1914 in St. Joseph, Missouri to a woman named Dorothy; in the 1920 US Census she was listed as a dressmaker in Brush. She and Ed had no children.
  • Anna Mae Walker (known as "May"), born between 1876/77; she married Walter A. (or Wallace?) DeLong. Walter worked for the Post Office. They had two children, Velma C. (Cloreygne?) (known as "Queen") DeLong (1906 - 1974/75). Velma married Jack Irwin; and Clement A. DeLong (circa 1901-1965). Clement was married and had two daughters.
  • Rosamond Walker (known as "Rose," "Rosa,") born September 7, 1879, died November, 1966; Rose married Walter Tyhurst in about 1910. He deserted the family some time later and moved to Chicago. Their children were: Marion Louise Tyhurst (who married a man named Schrock); Dudley Wayne Tyhurst (1912-1960), and Kenneth Tyhurst (1917-1972).
  • Charles Jacob Walker (known as "Japie," "J. P." "Jake") born about 1887 died in 1919. His death, in a small town in Iowa or Minnesota, was either an accidental shooting or else a suicide.
  • Bernice Walker, (known as "Bun" or "Bunnie") was born December 27, 1888 and died in 1979. She married Albert William Westburg (September 2, 1888 - November, 1966) before 1911. Her father, William Pearsey Walker, spent some of his last days with Bernice and is buried near Lincoln, Nebraska, where the Westburgs lived. Bun and Albert had two children: Elizabeth Mae Westburg (who married "Speck" Musgrove); and John Albert Westburg, who lived from 1917-1921. Bernice [Walker] Westburg died in Champaign, Champaign County, Illinois in 1966.
  • Laurine Walker (known as "Piler," "Sue," "Susie," "Suzy" - it was previously thought that Rosamond was Susie but some US Census images makes it clear that it is Laurine.), born April 19, 1890 in Washington, Washington County, (or else Louisa County) Iowa, died July 15, 1986 in Humboldt, Humboldt County, Iowa. Laurine married Ozro Martell Buckner (the wedding was probably about 1910); he was born January 24, 1888 and died February 23, 1964 in Humboldt, Humboldt County, Iowa. Their children were Richard William Buckner (who married Laura Eloise Welch of Oklahoma); and Ralph Eustace Buckner (who married Martha Levine).
