Elizabeth Etta "Betty" (Hatt) Walker
Betty Walker was born May 16, 1914, in Iowa City, Iowa. Her father, Alexander Howie Hatt (1872-1937), a native of Ontario, Canada, was first married to Henrietta E. "Etta" Gandy, who had died in 1910. There was a stepbrother and a stepsister in Betty's family from that marriage. Betty's mother was Elizabeth Ellen "Lizzie" Tice (1890-1968), who was from Kalona, Iowa, and had German Amish roots. Betty married Samuel Clinton "Sam" Walker (1910-1991) July 6, 1935, in Monmouth, Illinois. They had one child, a son, Jerry Dean Walker, who is a retired professor of dentistry at the University of Iowa. Betty and Sam made their home in Marion, Iowa, and later Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Betty died May 9, 1997, in Cedar Rapids, she and Sam are both buried at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery there.
