    • Charles Brumm, laborer; residing at Mt. Pleasant (Street) north side 24 northwest railroad.

(This may possibly be in what is now part of West Burlington. This indicates the purchase date of 1867 for the farm in Benton Township, as stated in William Brumm's 1905 biography, which would have been further north of Burlington, may have been in error. It was probably bought after 1867. Mt. Pleasant Street was not in Benton Township.)

    Sternenfels, in Baden-Württemberg
Roger Rhoads, a researcher of the Raeuchle family, kindly provided this series of photographs of places of interest to those of us descended from the Brumm family of Sternenfels. This town of several thousand people is in the present German state of Baden-Württemberg, and is located in the vicinity of the Black Forest (Schwarzwald). The Raeuchle connection to the Brumms occurred in 1852, when Daniel Brumm Sr. married Luise Regine "Louisa" Raeuchle, not long before they immigrated to the United States. They landed in Burlington, Iowa, for a time, with Daniel's brother, Carl, but then traveled south and settled in St. Louis, Missouri.

The images of the Lutheran church (Evangelisch) is the family church when our Brumm family still resided in this town. There are still to this day Brumm family connections, family descendants who remained in Germany.

A Descendancy Chart of Ernst Brumm (born 1874) of Sternenfels, Württemberg
My paternal Brumm family emigrated to the United States from a small town named Sternenfels in what used to be the duchy of Württemberg, presently the state of Baden-Württemberg in the federal republic of Germany.

There are still a number of Brumms living there today, whom I imagine are my relatives (even in Germany Brumm is not a particularly common name), although I have no connections presently to these people. I am always hopeful that some day such connections will be made.

I came upon this descendancy chart of Ernst Brumm of Sternenfels in one of my online research forays. He was born in 1874. (Note: this document is in .pdf format.)
