      Henry William Giertz was born January 5, 1880, in Oak Park, Illinois, the son of Heinrich and Elizabeth Ahrens Giertz. He was baptised Heinrich Wilhelm Friederick Giertz on February 1, 1880, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Forest Park, Illinois.

      His sponsors were Heinrich Ludemann, Wilhelm Schlung and Wilhelmine Foller. He was confirmed at the same Church on March 18, 1894. When he was twenty-two he married Lillian Bell Moyers on June 18, 1902, in Mediapolis, Des Moines County, Iowa.

      He and his wife relocated to Joliet, Illinois, a far suburb of Chicago. It was there that their only child, Margaret, was born. For twenty-four years he was employed at the L. F. Beach Company in Joliet. Henry, along with his family, was a member of the Ottawa Street Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Mt. Joliet Lodge #42, A.F. and A.M.. Prior to his death he was employed with the Thomas Flint and Sons. He died in Joliet on July 17, 1945. Funeral services were held the afternoon of the 19th., at the Harris Funeral Home, the Reverand Walter Morgan officiating. He is buried in grave 9, lot 193, in the Ridgeland Section of Elmhurst Cemetery, 1212 East Washington Street, Joliet, Illinois.
