Bertha died at age 31 at the asylum for the insane in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, on November 20, 1929. Her death record recorded the cause being that she "smothered in her pillow" from convulsions. She had been a patient there for six years. She was the oldest daughter of Charles Francis Walker (1865-1937) and Jessie Deborah Vaughn (1874-1908), at least the oldest who lived beyond infancy. A child, unknown gender, died before 1900, and possibly was an older daughter. Bertha was born July 15, 1898, in Louisa County. She is buried at the Wapello Cemetery, Wapello, Iowa.

Bertha Walker was the oldest daughter of Charles Francis Walker and Jessie Deborah Vaughn. In 1923 she was ruled "insane" by Louisa County, Iowa, and placed in the state mental institution in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. In November 1929, something apparently went wrong (which certainly sounds like a drug reaction), and she died from convulsions, smothered in her pillow. Bertha is buried at the Wapello Cemetery in Louisa County.
