George Washington Earl and Rebecca Ellen (Pence) Moyers' Photographs in the Book, History of Louisa County, Iowa (2 of 2)
George and Rebecca Moyers's biography was published in 1912 in the book, History of Louisa County, Iowa, From Its Earliest Settlement to 1911, Volume II.. Their photographs were also published in that book. The book was by Arthur Springer.

(Though published in 1912, the photographs were definitely taken earlier, probably in the 1880s.)
Samuel Nelson 'Sam' and Lucinda Hopkins 'Lucy' (Deen) Moyers 50th Wedding Anniversary (1 of 2)
Samuel Nelson "Sam" and Lucinda Hopkins "Lucy" (Deen) Moyers 50th Wedding Anniversary (1 of 2)
This photograph was taken at the 50th wedding anniversary of Sam and Lucy Moyers, probably in August 1896 as their wedding was August 8, 1846. About 1/3 of the family posed in this picture can be identified, and likely the other 2/3 are those whom we'd love to know who they were.

Those who have been identified in this photograph are: Nora Olive (Larkin) Cunningham, Wiley E. Cunningham, Samuel Wilbur Larkin, Adolphus "Lee" Larkin, Abigail "Blanche" (Larkin) Marshall, Ira David Marshall, Oliver Spencer Marshall, Daisy Esther Marshall (baby), Rebecca Ellen (Pence) Moyers, George Washington Earl Moyers, Pearl Alfred "P. A." Moyers, Hattie Mae "Harriett" (Moyers) Walker, Elsie Ella Walker, Jacob Nelson Moyers, Kathryn Ann "Bappy" (Stanley) Moyers, Lillian Bell Moyers (later Giertz), Samuel Nelson Moyers, and Lucinda Hopkins (Deen) Moyers.

The woman to Sam and Lucy's left was identified as Cody (with a question mark), as a person who stood up with them at their wedding.

Two children in the front row I had identified as probably being Stanley Wilbur Moyers and Halleck Roy "Hal" Moyers (later "Moyer"). The boy I guess to be Hal particularly resembles a later photo of him as an adult.

Although a later photo of Cora Ellen (Moyers) Hamilton exists, I cannot see anyone who seems exactly to fit or match with her photograph twenty years later.

Some of the older people in this may be Sam's brothers. His brother Jacob Josiah Moyers was living in Chicago, and was married to a woman named Martha (who may or may not have still been alive in 1896. She was dead by 1900). Benjamin Franklin Moyers was married to the former Barbara Deam, also a former Des Moines County, resident, and they lived in Missouri.

Elizabeth Ann (Kurtz) Moyers was divorced from Sam's brother, George Washington Moyers, but she and some of her children and families lived nearby in Louisa County, Iowa. If they were on good enough terms with her ex husband's family, they may be in this photograph. Also, I am not sure if Sam's brother George Moyers was still living or not, so he is another possibility. The Rexroats of McDonough County, Illinois, were also nephews and nieces, and not living too distant. Even the Lakin family, many of whom were still in Carrollton, Illinois, and vicinity, though Sam's sister Eliza had been dead over 30 years, may have travelled to Iowa for this celebration.

This photograph was provided courtesy of Larry Leon Dowell, Sam and Lucy's third great grandson. The identification was done by a relative of his, except for Hattie Mae and Elsie Walker, and Pearl Alfred Moyers.

1912 Walker Family Photos: The Summer Canoe on the Pond
This is a photograph (photo postcard style) I have inherited. My cousin, Virginia Golliher, has the same image and the people in the canoe are identified on hers. Her mother, Myrtle, and my mother, Leota, were both in the picture.

The older woman on the left is Rebecca Ellen (Pence) Moyers. The girl in front of her is Zella "Myrtle" Walker. George Washington Earl Moyers is rowing the canoe. On the right are Hattie Mae "Harriett" (Moyers) Walker, and she is holding the baby (my mother), Hattie "Leota" Walker. My mother was born in March 1912, so this photograph was taken in that summer. Myrtle was 7 or else 8, depending upon the date of the picture.

This is a second photograph of my great grandparents, George and Rebecca Moyers, as published in the book, History of Louisa County, Iowa, From Its Earliest Settlement to 1911, Volume II. This is provided as the other version shows part of the outside cover of the book, putting them in context. I estimate the photos were taken in the 1880s.

A Page from the Collected Clippings of Jennie "Reil" (Hannah) Walker
Many of the obituaries and other notices that seeded this project, on the maternal side of my family, were saved by Jennie "Reil" (Hannah) Walker, my step-grandmother, pasted over the page of an unwanted book, and passed down to her daughter, Marge Kimble. This is an example of the organization of the clippings that Reil accomplished. The obituaries of Mary Dotson and Jessie Moyers on this page were both deaths that occurred only about a month before Reil died.
