- Mary Ann (Hutchcroft) Pilling was born in County Yorkshire, England, September 23rd, 1833, and departed this life September 15, 1911, aged 77 years, 11 months, and 12 days.
She was married in 1850 to Thomas Norwood at Panretefract, England. To this union were born four children: Georgeanna, who died at the age of 16 years; Elizabeth resides at Kossuth; Sarah and Matilda of Burlington,. Thomas Norwood died in Chantam, Canada.
In 1863 she was married to Joseph B. Pilling, at Kossuth, Iowa. To this union were born five children; Josephine, of Kellerton, Iowa; Charles and William, of Mediapolis; Anna, of Moline, Illinois, and Alfred of Popejoy, Iowa. She is survived by two brothers and two sisters; Peter Hutchcroft, of Kellerton, Iowa; Job Hutchcroft, of this place and Mrs. John Eland and Mrs. Eliza Ulrick, of this place.
The funeral was held Saturday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the home of her son W. A. Pilling, where she has made her home for some time. The services were conducted by Reverend M. E. Reusch, assisted by Reverend S. Ollerenshaw, of Kossuth. Interment in the Kossuth cemetery.

- Pilling Family Has Get-together -- A reunion of the descendants of Joseph Broadbent and Mary Ann (Hutchcroft) Pilling will be held Sunday at Mediapolis Park beginning at 4 p.m. Those attending are asked to bring salad, sandwiches and beverage.
J. B. Pilling came to Des Moines county 120 years ago from Saddleworth, County Yorkshire, England, where he was born in 1827. In October of 1863, he was married to Mrs. Mary Ann (Hutchcroft) Norwood, born 23 Spt. 1833 in County Yorkshire, England, daughter of Richard & Elizabeth (Smith) Hutchcroft, also pioneers of Des Moines County.
Children born to the couple were: Josephine, wife of Robert Hall; Charles B., husband of Sarah A. Seeds; Anna Belle, wife of John H. Hannan; William A., husband of Mrs. Amelia Oberman; and Alfred S., husband of Edith B. Hannan.
