I probably saved this page during my early genealogical quest as part of an attempt to ascertain exactly when their marriage took place, which I did not know at the time. I now know it was very likely July 7, 1947, plus or minus a day, perhaps, and all indications are it took place in Fort Madison, Iowa.

    Kenneth Joseph Krekel
Kenny Krekel was born December 30, 1909, in Burlington, Iowa. He died January 24, 1950, at the Mercy Hospital in Burlington. He was a son of William Glaser and Loretta H. (Strabala) Krekel. His siblings were Mildred Leffler, William Wallace "Speck" Krekel, and Virginia Louise "Jean" Swanson. There is some uncertainty about Kenneth's father's lineage, though it is certain he was the son of Wilhelmina Glaser. Wilhelmina married Louis Fabian Krekel at some point after William's birth. Kenny first married Ruth E. Senn (1911-2002), a daughter of John and Catherine "Kate" (Boeckel) Senn. They had a son, William F. "Billy" Krekel, who is a resident of Burlington. Ruth and Kenny were divorced, she later married Swan Edmark, and Kenneth married (my mother) Hattie "Leota" Walker, about July 7, 1947. Kenny and Leota lived in West Burlington. He died of leukemia several years after they were married, and is buried at the Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery in Des Moines County, Iowa
Men at a Walker Family Reunion in About 1949
This is the only photograph I have seen of my mother's first husband, Kenneth Joseph Krekel. For whatever reason, mention of him was not something that happened in our household when I was a child. In fact, I first learned of her first husband in about 1986 when my father died and I was 34 years old.

This was probably a July birthday party in Locust Grove Park in Morning Sun, Iowa. I am not completely comfortable with several of the identifications, but will defer to those who were alive at the time who have made them. Those family members in this photograph are: William David "Bill" Walker, Thomas Clifford "Cliff" Walker, Samuel Clinton "Sam" Walker, Robert Charles "Bob" Walker, Theodore Roosevelt, "Ted" Dotson, Wallace Ernest "Wally" Broeker, Kenneth Krekel, Lloyd Smith Allen, and David Floyd "Dave" Howey.
