    • Miss Mattie Ellen Swan succumbed to appendicitis at Burlington hospital, late Tuesday night. She was the daughter of Mr. and. Mrs. J. Swan, a lovable and popular young lady, who will be missed by all who knew her.

She was brought to the institution suffering from appendicitis, and it was hoped that she would rally sufficiently to enable the physicians to perform an operation, but it proved impossible to revive her fading strength. Miss Swan was born in Mediapolis nineteen years ago. and had been teaching school at Morning Sun. The remains will be laid to rest in the last named town. (Note: other articles indicate she did have an operation, and succumbed after it.)
