This is a document featuring 65 generations of descendants of Godwulf (born circa AD 80) to Dennis Brumm. Through the Fox family genealogy, much of which was provided by researcher Jodie Streit, plus some research I did backing it out from the royal family of England (to which the Fox family is connected, including Norse legends which can never be proven, this is the furthest back my database goes. It is not posted to be taken as "fact" in the earliest of generations/ (Note: this document is in .pdf format.)

A Land Grant From President Andrew Jackson to a Nathaniel Fox in 1831
This document was sold on eBay in the year 2000. It is a grant of land in Ohio given to a "Nathaniel Fox" by President Andrew Jackson as payment for services rendered during the War of 1812. Although this land would not have been given to my second great grandfather, the Nathaniel Fox who married Kitturah McFarland in my family tree, it could have been granted his father, who was also Nathaniel Fox. It has potential as a family document, but is unproven.

The Fox Sampler of the Family of Nathaniel and Kitturah (McFarland) Fox
The photograph on this page was provided by Joleen Streit, a descendant of Nathaniel and Kitturah [McFarland] Fox.

Jodie Streit [Mary Joleen "Jodie" (Marks) Streit], a descendant of Nathaniel Fox and Kitturah McFarland, kindly provided this image of this sampler that was passed down through her family and is in the possession of her mother. She dates it to between 1833 and 1836.

The first 2Ĺ lines are of the upper case alphabet (A-Z). It then lists family members and their birth dates:

"Nathaniel Fox Was Born June 1, 1805; Kitturah Fox Was Born June 10, 1812; James M. Fox Was Born July 4, 1831; John McF Fox Was Born May 4, 1833"

The last 2 lines are the lower case alphabet. It is signed NFK, who is unknown but theorized it possibly could have been a relative of Nathaniel's mother, Mary Carver King.

    Nathaniel Fox
    Nathaniel Fox
My second great grandfather, Nathaniel Fox, was born in Rose Garden, King William County, Virginia, in 1805. He was living in Ohio by the end of the 1820s, and in 1829 he married Kitturah McFarland, a native of Ohio. They were the parents of four children by 1839 when they moved to Iowa to live. They would have six more. Their youngest, my great grandmother, Ruth Ellen (Fox) Walker, lived from 1851-1889. Nathaniel died in 1887 in Greenwood, Nebraska. He was either visiting or living with his daughter, Elizabeth Sampson, by that time.

His father fought in the American Revolutionary War. Nathaniel married Kitturah McFarland September 21, 1829. They had 10 children. Kitturah died in 1877, Nathaniel in 1887. Kitturah is buried near New London, Iowa, where they lived after about 1839. Nathaniel is buried in the Greenwood Cemetery in Cass County, Nebraska.

First Land Owners in New London Township, Henry County, Iowa
This list was published The History of New London, Iowa, by Margaret "Ruth" (DeLong) Peterson (published by The New London Journal on the occasion of the paper's centennial in 1975, Duane Griggs, editor; New London, Henry County, Iowa: composed and printed by The Hawk Eye; Burlington, Des Moines County, Iowa). Ruth wrote the following information about her source of the material:

In the New London Journal of Speptember 19, 1935, there appeared a list of the first purchasers of land in New London Township, furnished by George Van Allen, at the request of the Journalís editor, Ed Wessel. These records are still available at the [Henry County, Iowa] courthouse, written in the old books in a fine penmanship. Date of filing the ownership is 1840 unless otherwise indicated. It will be noted that land around New London and to the west and south was taken first, with much of the prairie land to the north remaining until the late 1840ís.

The following names that appeared in the list are in this database: William Anderson, David Brown, Jacob Burge, Ebenezer Dickey, Samuel Dickey, John Edgar (John Edger), Nathaniel Fox, William Hail (William Hale), William Hardin, Jackson King (Jonathan Jackson King), John King (Jonathan Jackson King), Frederick Lee, Hezekiah Lee, Jeremiah Lee, John Lee, Jacob Prickett, Isaac J. The First Voters in New London Township, Henry County, Iowa, in 1840
The following text was transcribed from a 1975 centennial edition of the town of New London, Iowa's newspaper, The New London Journal. The article was originally written by Margaret "Ruth" (De Long) Peterson. This list is printed on page 30 of that edition:

An 1840 list of voters in New London Township was published in The New London Journal, April 30, 1936. The information came from 1840 poll books owned by Beth Portlock (Mrs. William) Griffith. The Journal cautioned, "Many names are spelled incorrectly, since it is evident the clerk of election wrote the names as they sounded." The election was held October 5, 1840, to select a delegate to Congress, a Representative, and various county and local officials. There were seven precincts in Henry County for the 1840 election: Baltimore, Jefferson, Rome, Mt. Pleasant, New London, Crooked Creek ([includes the town of] Winfield - where only eight voted), and Salem. Voters in other precincts were listed in Journals of the spring and summer of 1936. The New London precinct election was held at the house of Moses Dray, who was the justice of the peace for the township.

Those on the list who appear in this database include: David Brown, Frederick Lee, Hezekiah Lee, Isaaac Sampson, Isaac J. Redfern, Jacob Burge, Jacob Prickett, Jeremiah Lee, John Calkins Sampson, John Lee, John Sampson, Jonathan Jackson King, Nathaniel Fox, Porter Hale, William Anderson, William Hale, and William Hardin.
