  • Photos Five Generations of the Dotson, Deihl, Pantel, and Hicklin Families
This photograph in a newspaper clipping was kindly provided by Julie Ann Delio, who is the baby in the picture. There are five generations of her family shown here, beginning with Eva E. Dotson, who was born in July 17, 1861, and died November 1, 1952. Eva was the wife of George Reymer Deihl (1857-1927); Eva's daughter, the eldest of five children in the Deihl family, was Blanche Anna Deihl, who lived from November 27, 1880, until March 27, 1970. Blanche married Steven Franz Pantel (1877-1918). Blanche and Steven's daughter was: Bertha Grace Pantel, born October 28, 1906, and died January 26, 1991. Bertha married Albert Otis Hicklin (1904-1986), and their son, Raymond Edwin Hicklin, is shown holding his daughter, Julie Ann. Julie's mother is Marsha Ann (Wallace) Hicklin.

Eva Dotson, the matriarch of the photograph, was the daughter and youngest child of fourteen born to Bazzel S. and Mary (Davidson) Dotson. They moved by 1844 from Pennsylvania to Iowa along with other family members. Eva Dotson was a grand aunt to my uncle Ted Dotson, and aunt, Verona (Dotson) Walker.

The caption below this photograph is:

Pictured above are members of the Hicklin family who represent five generations. Julie Ann Hicklin, two months old, is in the arms of her father, Raymond E. Hicklin. From left to right, the other members of the direct descendants are Mrs. A. O. Hicklin, Mrs. Blanche Pantel and Mrs. Eva Deihl. Raymond Hicklin has entered Iowa State college at Ames this fall and his family will reside in that city during the school year. A span of 214 years comprise the ages of the five generations. The newest generation has a total of eleven grandparents, great and great great grandparents. (At least one living or private individual is linked to this item - Details withheld.)
