    Research
    • It is not completely certain that Elnora "Ellen" Schuler is the same person as "Ella Schuler" who married William Frederick Burgus (according to records of Burgus family researchers), but as no other Schulers with a similar surname are known to have existed in sortheast Iowa at the time, it seems probably they are the same woman.
    Research
    • Elnora's father was from Baden and her mother was from Iowa. In 1910, when William Brumm, Boyd's father, is listed as born in "Louisiana," Ella's father is listed as born in "Ohio." (Perhaps there was some reason that particular year so many native born Germans needed to be born in America?)

    • This date is probably wrong; their ages on the Iowa marriage record would indicate the marriage was 1910, not 1900. And since there is a second record indicating that the marriage was in 1910, that seems even more likely.

The Obituary of Elnora Mary 'Ellen' or 'Ella' Schuler
The Obituary of Elnora Mary "Ellen" or "Ella" Schuler
Ellen Walker, born Elnora Mary Schuler in Des Moines County, Iowa, April 5, 1881, was a child in a family of ten children that encompased the family of Joseph Schuler (1841-1921) of Baden and Mary Elizabeth Meyers (or Myers) (1850-1930). The family were farmers in Benton Township of Des Moines County, Iowa, and lived by and interacted with many other family groups in this genealogy project. An "Ella Schuler" had an apparent short-lived marriage to William Fredrick Burgus (1880-1929). This was apparently Elnora. In 1911, he remarried, and in January 19, 1910, Elnora married Boyd William Brumm (1878-1921) in Burlington, Iowa, the son of William Brumm and Helena Vandalia Thomas. Both of these husbands' families, the Burgus and Brumm families, were neighbors of the Schuler family. Elnora and Boyd were childless during their 10 year marriage. He died June 27, 1921, at Burlington Hospital (Burlington, Iowa) of blood poisoning contracted during a farming accident. In 1924, Ellen remarried again, to the widower, Claud Kaster Walker, son of Thomas H. and Synthia "May" (Kaster) Walker. Claud's first wife, Eva L. Downer, had died in 1916. Ellen died at home on February 20, 1953, in Burlington. She's buried at the Kossuth Cemetery near Mediapolis, Iowa, as were two of her three husbands, Claud Walker and Boyd Brumm.
