- Mary Jane Scheihing Borchardt will be honored for her 80th birthday at an open house from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, July 22, at the First Presbyterian Church, 127 N. Main Street, Wapello.
The event will be hosted by her daughters, Alene (Phil) Neas of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Ruth (Lloyd) Meyerholz of Wapello.
All friends are invited to attend. The gift of gab is all that is requested.

- Mary Jane Scheihing-Borchardt, age 90, of Wapello, Iowa, died Saturday evening, July 30, 2011, at the Wapello Nursing & Rehab Center. The daughter of Lee and Marian Greene Dotson, she was born on July 25, 1921, at Wapello. Mary Jane married Ralph Scheihing on February 14, 1941, in Burlington. He preceded her in death on August 6, 1992. She married Will Borchardt on December 17, 2000, in Mission, Texas.
Mary Jane graduated from Wapello High School in 1939 and went to the Burlington School of Cosmetology. She worked in cosmetology for a few years and then cut hair for her family and friends. She farmed with her husband Ralph. Later she worked at Whichers Jewelry, then Patrick's True Value, the Wapello Sale Barn, and the Wapello Veterinary Clinic.
She was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wapello and taught Sunday School and served as a Deacon. She was a member of Chapter G, T.T.T. of Wapello and the VFW Auxiliary in Wapello. She had been a 4-H leader. She loved square dancing, sewing, and games of all kinds. She enjoyed spending her winters in Texas. Her family was always first.
Her surviving family includes her husband Will Borchardt of Wapello; two daughters, Ruth & Lloyd Meyerholz of Wapello and Alene & Phil Neas of Westcliffe, Colorado; three grandchildren, Stephanie & James Gipple, Derek & Lynn Neas, and Emily & Jason Puffett; seven great-grandchildren, Megan, Kara, and Dillon Gipple, Matthew and Graham Neas, and Sammy and Cooper Puffett; and three brothers, Jack Dotson and Lee Dotson, both of Wapello, and Glen Dotson of Phoenix, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Ralph; a grandson, Lance; and a brother, Philip Dotson.
The funeral ceremony for Mary Jane Scheihing-Borchardt will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 2, 2011, at the First Presbyterian Church in Wapello, with Pastor Erv Smith officiating. Burial will follow at the Wapello Cemetery. Family and friends will gather for a lunch following the committal.
Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. today at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello.
A Memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of the First Presbyterian Church and the Great River Hospice.

Morning Sun, Iowa, September 14. - There were 79 present at the picnic held at Locust Grove park Saturday in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Mary L. Dotson, Miss Iva Dotson and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Mullen of Washington, D. C. The dinner was served cafeteria style at noon. Following the dinner the men pitched horseshoes and the women enjoyed the social hours. The following were present from a distance: Mr. and Mrs. Ed Moyers and children of Kingston, Mrs. Theodore Dotson and children and Miss Leota Walker of New London, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Dotson and children and Miss Hattie Dotson of Wapello.

- Mr. and Mrs. Lee Dotson, Sr., will be honored at open house at the Colonial Inn in Wapello September 17 for their 50th wedding anniversary. The observance is being planned by the couple's children between 2 and 5 p.m.
The Dotsons were married at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Green, near Morning Sun, September 19, 1917.
They are the parents of five children: Philip of Phoenix, Arizona, Mrs. Mary Jane Scheihing, Jack and Lee of Wapello; and Glen of Phoenix.
There are 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

- Scheihings To Note Silver Anniversary
Wapello (IA) -- Mr. and Mrs. Ruth Scheihing will observe their silver wedding anniversary February 14. In celebration of the event, open house will be held at their home south of Wapello Sunday, February 13 with Mr. and Mrs. Ledel Stineman and Alene Scheihing as hosts.
Mary Jane Dotson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Dotson, and Ralph Scheihing, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Scheihing, were married February 14, 1961 (sic: 1941) at Burlington with the Reverend Jerome Miller officiating.
Attendants were Kenneth Baird and Dorothy Marie Dotson.
The Scheihings have two daughters: Mrs. Ledel (Ruth) Stineman, Wapello; and Alene, a student at Western University at Macomb, Illinois. There are two grandchildren, Stephanie and Lance Stineman.

Ralph Scheihing and Mary Jane Dotson were married February 14, 1941, in Burlington. They have two daughters, Ruth Stineman, Wapello, and Alene Neas, Minnetonka, Minnesota. They also have four grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.

Mary graduated from Wapello (Iowa) High School in 1939, and married Ralph Nelson Scheihing. Their daughters are Ruth Ann Meyerholz, and Alene Neas. She later married Wilmer A. Borchardt. |
