    The Hawk Eye 
    • Wayne Leroy McConahay, 69, of Wapello, died Sunday morning, June 3, 2001, at his home.

      Born April 6, 1932, in Cairo, he was the son of A. R. "Pete" and Blanche Marshall McConahay. He married Lottie Jane Stineman on May 20, 1952, in Grandview.

      Mr. McConahay attended Wapello schools. He served in the Navy from 1952 to 1956, during the Korean War. He worked at a U.S. Gypsum plant in California and then returned to Wapello, where he did carpentry, managed the fertilizer plant, and worked in sales for Denniston & Partridge Lumber Company and later for the Farmers Elevator and Exchange. He retired in 1997.

      He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Wapello and a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Glenn Allen Post 5166 of Wapello. He served for 16 years on the Wapello City Council and for more than 20 years on the Wapello Volunteer Fire Department.

      Survivors include his wife; one son, Dallas McConahay of Sacramento, California; two daughters, Tamara Prier of Knoxville and Jona Paulson of Vancouver, Washington; two grandsons; four sisters, Betty Perkins of Morning Sun, Charlotte Schroeder of Oceanside, California, and Phyllis McKinney and Marjorie Schneider, both of Wapello; and two brothers, Keith McConahay of West Burlington and Larry McConahay of Iowa City.

      He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

      Visitation will begin at noon today at Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

      The funeral for Mr. McConahay will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Wapello, with the Reverends Harlan W. Winter and Darryl Erickson officiating. Burial will be in Wapello Cemetery, with military rites by the Wapello VFW.

      Memorials have been established for his church, Wapello VFW, Wapello Volunteer Fire Department and Hospice of Iowa City.

    • Honored On 54th Wedding Anniversary

      Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Marshall were honored on their 54th wedding anniversary with a family cooperative dinner. The table was decorated with a three tier anniversary cake decorated with yellow roses and a 54 on the top tier.

      They were presented with a wrought iron television stand.
