      Morning Sun (IA), January 14 -- Walter A. Dotson, son of Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Dotson of Newport, died at 11 o'clock this morning at the hospital in Quincy. Walter Dotson was born in Newport 39 years ago and spent his entire youth here. He was married to Miss Mary Pilling and five years ago moved to Hull, Illinois, where he has lived since that time.

      The body will be taken to the home of Mrs. Dotson's parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Pilling. His wife, his parents, one sister, Mrs. Lois Pilling, and two nephews, D. G. and Delbert Pilling survive him.

      Gail Chamberlin of Muscatine was named president for the coming year at the Henry Bier family reunion held at Cartwright park in Mediapolis Sunday.

      Others chosen were Mrs. N. M. Stark, vice president; and Mrs. Cora Spring, secretary and treasurer.

      At the business meeting, which followed a basket dinner at noon, Will Bailey of Wapello presided and Miss Martha Peters of West Liberty served as secretary-treasurer.

      Forty-one attended the event, which was the fourth annual reunion.

    Thurman Allen Dotson (1867-1954) and Deborah "Minerva" Jamison (1870-1952) were married November 19, 1889. They had a son and daughter. Son Walter Elsworth Dotson (1890-1930) married Mary Charlotte Pilling (1891-1982), the daughter of Charles Broadbent Pilling and Sarah Alice "Allie" Seeds. Walter and Minerva's daughter was Lois Alta Dotson (1897-1978), who married Lewis D. Pilling (1896-1959). Lewis was a brother to Mary Charlotte, Walter's wife.

    • There does not seem to be any record of this marriage. Daughter, Kathryn Eileen Dotson, was born about the same time as this marriage. Pearl was listed as single in 1920 census, as was Walter, both living with their respective parents. Pearl was listed as widowed and Pearl Dotson in the 1925 Iowa state census, working as a nurse. Daughter Kathryn is not yet found in 1920, 1925, or 1930. She is mentioned in Pearl's second husband's obituary as a stepdaughter. Neither she nor Pearl were mentioned in Walter's obituary.
